There are five Long Caboose numbers featuring the D&RGW Flying Grande Herald (No.’s 0503, 0505, 0517, 0540 and 0574), three with the Moffat Tunnel Herald (No.’s 0503, 0517 and 0574), one with the Royal Gorge Route Herald (No. 0540), and one with no herald and 1920s/ Early 1930s lettering (No. 0505). All numbers will also be available in ‘weathered’ versions.

Certain road numbers will feature a slightly faded version of the ‘freshly shopped’ color. Please check the Blackstone website for more details.

Great News! You can now order the Durango & Silverton version of the Class 5 Long Caboose. In the past, this has only been available through the D&S gift shop and website.

In 1981, the well-known Silverton Branch of the Rio Grande was sold. Under the new ownership, the branch line became the now-famous Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Included in this purchase of the 45 miles of scenic track were numerous locomotives and many operable pieces of rolling stock, most of which were put into service with new heralds and paint schemes to reflect the new company.

This version of the 0540 caboose represents the car as it appears today, freshly shopped with its own unique paint shade and the colorful D&SNG ‘Animas Canyon Route’ herald designed after the railroad’s current owner.
